‘Give ample opportunities for education to children’
KUCHING: Parents are urged to provide ample opportunities for their children to become world class Sarawakians, especially through education.
SUPP president Datuk Dr Prof Sim Kui Hian said for Sarawak to be world class, there must be opportunities for education.
“We may be from the jungles of Borneo, but we can be world class.
“Besides providing opportunities for further education to their children, parents need to educate them to come back to take care of their parents if they are sent elsewhere to study,” Dr Sim said.
“When they are successful, teach them to give back to society by sharing their experiences with the younger generation on how to be world class.
“This is how world class Sarawakians should be,” he said prior to the earth-breaking ceremony for a multipurpose hall at SK Jalan Ong Tiang Swee here yesterday.
Dr Sim noted the importance of having education autonomy in Sarawak and pledged to continue the fight for it.
“This is so we can plan what schools need help, and what kinds of help.
“Giving good education to children is important as we want to concentrate on human resource development and education, so all Sarawakians can be world class,”

He hoped more scholarships could be given to Sarawakian students for the state to achieve high income status.
“For example, Sarawakian students who received Petronas scholarships only number 102 out of 1,551 recipients between 2010 to 2014.
“I would rather see more scholarships given to our children than money, as with good education, they can make money,” he said.
Dr Sim also stressed the importance of mastering the English language for Sarawakians to be world class.
He said many issues and policies take time to carry out, so it was important for the people to choose the right leader who can lead them in the right direction.
Dr Sim later announced an allocation of RM5,000 for the school.
Also present were SUPP deputy secretary-general Sih Hua Tong, school headmaster Mohamad Mathias Abdullah, PTA chairperson Liza Jimmy and others.
