MIRI: As usual at this time of the year, it is the ‘Leo Campcum-Orientation and Leadership seminar for Fiscal Year 20152016’ for the Leo Club of Tun Datu Tuanku Haji Bujang College here.

The event was held last week under the ‘Youth Outreach and Leadership Development Programme’ with the theme ‘Leos of Today, Leaders of Tomorrow’.

“This is to expose us, especially the new Leos, to the various Lions Clubs and Leo Clubs locally which act as a medium to inculcate and sharpen their leadership skills.

“It also stimulates and strengthens the bond between the Leos of different races and religions,” organising chairperson Nazia Mohammad Shukri said.

Overall, 50 Leos were involved in the event, including the Leo Club president Colin Lee, Lions Club of Miri Host committee members, Leo Club faculty advisors Ling Ying and Yong Fock Tong, the college’s senior assistant Douglas James and Lions Club of Miri Host president Choo Soo Yuen.

It was conducted by 1st vice governor Eve Wong Sau Yin.

The event kicked off with the registration of Leos at 6.30am, followed by an aerobic exercise at 7am, ice-breaking, Leo garden maintenance and telematch.

In her opening speech, Nazia said the theme was chosen because as future leaders, the Leos had to prepare themselves by inculcating and sharpening their leadership skills for a better future.

Choo and Douglas also spoke at the function. Choo encouraged the Leos to strive in their endeavour to be good future leaders, while Douglas wanted the club to remain active till the end.

Lee, meanwhile, thanked the college principal and all those involved to make the event a success.

“Everybody seems happy and enjoys the fun and games together,” he said.
