Dilapidate­d house gets repaired by Bomba

KUCHING: The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) Sarawak came to the aid of Said Suhaili, the owner of a dilapidate­d house at Kampung Tabuan Hilir.

According to state Bomba director Nor Hisham Mohammad, the house repair programme under the National Blue Ocean Strategy (NBOS) has benefitted several house owners across the state.

“Under this programme, Bomba personnel will assist in repairing these houses and Sarawak this year has a quota of 20 houses,” Hisham said when met yesterday.

Each house was allocated RM10,000 for repair work and the quota was divided according to districts.

“In Kuching, we identified three houses with Said’s house one of them,” he said, adding that the condition of his house fulfilled the criteria.

“Furthermor­e, Said, a security guard with an income of RM800 has to take care of his ageing mother, his disabled brother and has five children who have stopped schooling,” he said.

He will propose the house to Bomba headquarte­rs soonest and they would acquire the funds from the Rural and Regional Ministry.

“We expect the repair work to commence in April and the work estimated to take two weeks to complete,” he said.

Hisham said among the sections of the house to be replaced are the roof, walls and kitchen floor.

Also visiting the family were Women, Welfare and Family Developmen­t Minister Datuk Fatimah Abdullah and Pantai Damai assemblyma­n Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi.
