Sibu dominates Day 2 of swim meet
KUCHING: The Sibu Amateur Swimming Association (Sasa) pulled further ahead in the race for supremacy in the 43rd Sarawak Age Group Swimming Championships at the Sarawak Aquatic Centre yesterday by capturing 28 more gold, 23 silver and 20 bronze medals.
This brought their total medal haul to 50-37-29 to stay firmly in the driver's seat.
Sukma swimmer Alex Tiong Sie Hung continue to shine in the Boys Open when he splashed to five more gold medals, bringing his personal tally to 10 golds in two days of competition.
Yesterday, he was victorious in the 100m backstroke, 200m backstroke, 400m freestyle, 50m butterfly and 400m IM but his remarkable performance was only blemished by a poor swim in the 50m breaststroke where he clocked 41.53s to finish fourth behind Kotas' Tan Choon Hoe, and Sasa teammates Steven Dong Yong Fei and Kelvin Law Lik Wen.
There was only one meet record broken so far, and the record breaker was also from Sasa Emily Wong Li Min who won the Girls Group E 50m breaststroke in a record time of 48.44s, thus rewriting the old time of 50.97s set by Sibu's Ivy Ning Chai Yun at Bukit Lima Swimming Pool last year.
Kuching Amateur Swimming Association (Kasa) 2010 maintained second place with 29 gold, 30 silver and 39 bronze medals, followed by Kota Samarahan Amateur Swimming Association (Kotas) with 18-2316.
Miri Amateur Swimming Association (Masa) were fourth (13-13-16) while Limbang Amateur Swimming Association (Lasa) had 8-2-3 to show and Bintulu Amateur Swimming Association (Basa) are in sixth spot (2-4-5).
Kapit Amateur Swimming Association (Asak), which fielded only three swimmers this year, have yet to win any medal.
Thirty-one more golds are up for grabs on the final day of competition today.
