Schwarzenegger to stump for John Kasich at Ohio rally
WASHINGTON: Republican presidential hopeful John Kasich will be joined on the campaign trail by “Governator” Arnold Schwarzenegger, in hopes the Hollywood veteran can help terminate the competition.
Schwarzenegger, the former California governor and star of “The Terminator” will campaign on Sunday for Kasich, who has yet to win any statewide nominating contest.
Kasich’s website said Schwarzenegger would appear in the candidate’s home state at a “Battleground Ohio Rally.”
Media reports said Schwarzenegger had previously donated the maximum amount possible, US$2,700, to Kasich’s campaign.
Kasich, the Ohio governor, has his best shot at winning a state when Ohio Republicans vote for a nominee on Mar 15.
But a recent poll shows Kasich still trailing billionaire frontrunner Donald Trump there by five points.
Kasich has failed to gain traction with his positive message and commitment to civility in a race that has seen Trump set an often debased tone.
Ironically, Schwarzenegger is set to succeed Trump as host of NBC’s “The Celebrity Apprentice,” a reality show in which stars compete to win money for their favourite charities.
During a campaign speech on Thursday, Trump flexed his competitive muscles, asking his supporters whether Schwarzenegger could possibly fill his shoes. — AFP
