Septuagenarian proud July 22 celebrated as special day

-

SIBU: Seventy-year- old Aminah Semaun is one proud woman who has gone through the passage of time to witness the rise of Sarawak as an independent state in 1963.

In an interview on Thursday, she said the pride and glory of July 22 must be passed on to the children of Sarawak.

“By sharing it with our children, only then they will realise and understand how important it is for them to uphold it by all means. This is because without independence, we will not be able to enjoy the fruits of independence like what we have today,” she noted.

Therefore, she added, it was right that July 22 was made a public holiday to remember Sarawak Independence Day that led to the formation of a greater nation – the Federation of Malaysia – in which Sarawak is a major partner.

“This is indeed the most important day for Sarawak that we all should be proud of by celebrating it together in the spirit of unity,” she pointed out.

The mother of nine children added that her wish would be to see her children and all the young people of Sarawak have a much better tomorrow, especially now under the dynamic leadership of Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem.

“Thank you so much to our beloved Tok Nan (Adenan) for giving us this special day of July 22 as a public holiday to remember the historic moment when Sarawak became an independent state in 1963,” she said.
