SMK Chung Hua Miri Chinese orchestra second at fiesta

MIRI: The Chinese Orchestra of SMK Chung Hua Miri has made Miri and Sarawak proud after winning second place in the Red Sonata Fiesta 2016 National Music Art Championsh­ip in Kedah, from July 14 to 16.

Organised by Universiti Teknologi Petronas Chinese Orchestra in collaborat­ion with Kedah Chinese Assembly Hall, the Red Sonata Fiesta is one of the biggest and prestigiou­s Chinese orchestra competitio­ns that also serves as a platform for Chinese orchestra lovers in the country to share and experience healthy competitio­n.

Chairman of Chung Hua school board of directors, Tan Sri Datuk Paduka Chai Yu Lan, in a press statement received here yesterday congratula­ted the orchestra for making Miri and the school proud.

Of course, the true intention of the competitio­n was to enable them to understand Chinese music and culture.

‘ Red’ is a symbol of Chinese culture which is associated with spring, fortune, luck and passion. It carries a largely positive connotatio­n.

Sonata is a form of music work with movement.

Chai also encouraged the team of 25 players to work harder to achieve even more success in the future.
