Taste of K-cuisine from UCSI at CityOne Megamall
KUCHING: Students from UCSI University Sarawak Campus’ Department of Hospitality and Culinary Arts had the chance to showcase their skills during the recent Korean Festival 2016 at CityOne Megamall.
UCSI was invited by the organiser, CityOne Megamall, to conduct a cooking demonstration at the event.
Three students, Gary Lim, Kueh Wun Thiin and Foo Jie Xin who are majoring in culinary arts, prepared several dishes such as Japchae, Gimbap, Bulgogi and Bibimbap. After the cooking demo, guests had the privilege of savouring each of their dishes.
“Conducting a cooking demonstration in front of an unfamiliar crowd was such a nerve- racking experience. However, through this, my confidence and public speaking skills have been built up. I really appreciate being given this chance to participate in such an activity,” said Lim in a press release.
Foo enthused, “I felt honoured to be given a chance to share our expertise and knowledge pertaining to Korean cuisine. It is great to be able to illustrate the knowledge we acquired during our classes and share it with people. This indirectly will assist me and my colleagues to be able to remember and understand more in depth what we have learned throughout the semester.”
The head of the Department of Hotel and Culinary Arts, Christopher Wan Sageng was pleased with the success of the event and with the collaborative effort experienced between CityOne Mega Mall and UCSI University Sarawak Campus.
“Thanks to CityOne Megamall for entrusting UCSI University with the task of taking the lead in the cooking demonstrations.
“Such events, without any doubt, have a beneficial impact on our students in terms of public speaking and culinary skills based attributes.
“Kudos to all the students who successfully pull off the cooking demonstrations,” said Christopher.
