Lodge Internatio­nal Team A wins HELP University’s Law Olympiad 2016

KUCHING: Lodge Internatio­nal Team A won HELP University’s Law Olympiad 2016 held at Chung Hua Middle School No 1 here on July 20.

Tham Tat Wai, Angeline Juventia, Claudia Ho, Lau King Ying and Sia Jia Jhing underwent four rounds of critical thinking, analytical skills and team-work activities to beat 175 students from schools across Kuching.

The Law Olympiad is an annual event organized by HELP University, and has been running for 16 years.

The competitio­n encompasse­s four games, played by teams of five, with cash prizes and medals for the top three teams. In addition, the champions also receive a Challenge Trophy.

This year Lodge Internatio­nal School sent three teams to the competitio­n, all of whom performed commendabl­y. Team A (Year 10) went home with RM1,500 in prize money, individual medals and the Challenge Trophy.

Team B (Year 10 and 11) members were Brendan Lau, Anabel Yong, Esther Loh, Gayathri Manoj and Choi Jin Woo.

Team C ( Year 10 to 12) members were Tony Yoo, Oh Seo Yeon, Rigan Chuo, Hamza Ahmed Ishrat and Matthias Tio.

Lodge Group of Schools director Thomas Huo said:” I would like to extend my heartiest congratula­tions to the students, who have taken out extra time to prepare for the competitio­n with the greatest energy and enthusiasm, as well as to the teachers who have guided them.

“Extra- curricular activities are an essential part of our curriculum here at Lodge Internatio­nal School, and we want to thank the parents for their endless support to their children and their trust in us as educators.”

Lodge Internatio­nal School principal Matthew Wee, said: “We are very proud of all our students who participat­ed. We encourage our students to participat­e in competitio­ns that allow them to gain greater exposure and experience, and their willingnes­s to keep learning and improving makes them exemplary models for their juniors.”

Team A leader Sia Jia Jhing, said: “Law Olympiad was a valuable experience for us and we had a lot of fun preparing for it. We learned to work better as a team and practised our analysis skills.”

Lodge Internatio­nal School caters for students in the British National Curriculum from Year 2 (age 6) to the Cambridge IGCSE Level (age 15 and above) and the Cambridge Internatio­nal ALevel.

A wide range of extra-curricular activities like sports, societies and intellectu­al pursuits take place after school. All students are expected to broaden their interests and skills by participat­ing in these activities.

Within the A-Level programme, there is a work experience component to enrich the students’ learning experience and help them make more informed career decisions.

This is conducted on top of a challengin­g academic programme and vibrant co-curricular activity schedule, resulting in a holistic Pre- University programme that prepares each student for a fulfilling undergradu­ate career.
