Actress Lydiawati’s case set for mention on Sept 2

KUALA LUMPUR: The Ampang magistrate’s court here yesterday fixed Sept 2 to mention the case involving actress Lydiawati who is charged with causing hurt on a woman using an iron object.

Magistrate Haslinda A Raof set the date after lawyer Fatimah Zahrah Ramli, representing Lydiawati, 51, whose real name is Salina Zaimon, informed the court that she was waiting for documents on the case.

“We want to get information from Lydiawati’s handphone, but the handphone is damaged and therefore I request a new mention date to submit the documents,” she said.

The prosecution was represented by deputy public prosecutor Raihanah Abdul Razak. On May 16, Lydiawati, who became famous through the film, ‘Suami, Isteri dan ...,’ pleaded not guilty to intentionally causing hurt to Brunei businesswoman Sharifah Harnizam Wan Musa, 43, by hitting her with an iron object.

The charge, under Section 324 of the Penal Code, carries an imprisonment for up to 10 years, or fine, or whipping, or any two of the punishments, if found guilty.

The single mother of two was alleged to have committed the offence at Hotel Safari 2, Lot 52 Jalan Mamanda 9, Ampang here, at 6.30pm last March 24. The following day, a video of Lydiawati hitting a woman went viral after the actress uploaded it on her Facebook. — Bernama
