KUALA LUMPUR: It was ‘Durian Day’ yesterday at Wisma Bernama, headquarters of the Malaysian National News Agency.

More then 300 staff of the agency helped themselves to about 800kg of the King of Fruits at a durian carnival organised by their club, Kelab Kakitangan Bernama, in a corner of the building compound.

Club president Datuk Mokhtar Hussain said the fourth annual affair received good response from the staff despite the rain.

This year’s programme was held with the collaboration of the Federal Agricultural Marketing Authority ( FAMA), Bank Rakyat and Ikram Katering, he said.

“The carnival was successful though we were informed that the durian harvest was poor this season due to hot and dry weather experienced in the country.

“Each staff was only required to purchase a RM10 coupon to enjoy the fruit as well as other food at the carnival,” he said.

Bernama Chairman Datuk Seri Azman Ujang, Editor-in- Chief Datuk Zakaria Abdul Wahab and Deputy Editor-in- Chief (Economic News Service) Mikhail Raj Abdullah also attended the carnival.

Mokhtar, who is deputy editorinchief ( Domestic News Service), said this year’s carnival was slightly different in that Fama set up several food trucks selling a variety of food at reasonable prices. — Bernama
