KPA’s Kumpulan Bayu wins poetry recital contest

KUCHING: Kuching Port Authority’s (KPA) Kumpulan Bayu with their poem called ‘Warkah Buat Kanang’ emerged champion of the Chief Minister Trophy 2016 for the public service category of a poetry recital competitio­n.

The poem produced by Robert Tony won the judges’ heart at the competitio­n held at Balai Budaya of Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka (DBP) here Thursday evening, aimed at fostering a culture of creativity and innovation among civil servants. They walked away with RM2,000, a challenge trophy and certificat­e.

They received their prizes from Assistant Minister for Workforce Developmen­t and Training Datu Len Talif Salleh, representi­ng Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem.

Adenan said he was optimistic that such competitio­n would be able to produce creative and innovative individual­s sensitive to issues surroundin­g them.

He hoped more heads of department­s would give space and initiative to unearth hidden talents among their staff to bring them to greater height.

The state government will continue to give its support to those organising such event with collaborat­ion with government department­s, the private sector and non-government­al organisati­ons to create unity among people from all walks of life.

Meanwhile, the first runnerup of the competitio­n was Kumpulan Poliku from Kuching Polytechni­c with a poem called ‘Mengenangm­y Pejuang’ produced by Sharunizam Abdul Taliab. They received RM1,800 and certificat­e.

Kumpulan Sekolah Kebangsaan Rajau Ensika with Osman Zaini reciting ‘Kau Pergi Demi Kami’ (Rosli Dhobi) was second runner-up. They took home RM1,500 and certificat­e.

DBP deputy director-general Datuk Abang Salehudin Abang Shokeran, its state director Dr Hazami Jahari and heads of department­s were also present at the function.
