Fire victims offered flat-for-rent to stay

-

SIBU: The fire victims of Rumah Jalak Kusau, Tanjung Penasu have been offered to stay at a flat in Rantau Panjang while waiting for the rebuilding of their longhouse.

A political secretary to the chief minister, Andrew Shilling Banggit, said he had discussed the matter with Housing Development Corporation which had granted its approval.

“If you are interested to stay at the flat the monthly rental is RM150,” he said after witnessing the handing- over of contribution from Temenggong Dato Vincent Lau to the fire victims yesterday.

The RM300 per door- donation was presented by Vincent’s son Kelvin.

Pemanca James Semilan, Penghulu Jeffery Sut and a welfare officer Soon Kong Tiong were also present.

Andrew said those interested to stay at the flat must submit their names to him by next Friday the latest.

“You will be placed on the third floor,” he told the fire victims.

He also advised those wanting to build temporary shelter at the site of the burnt longhouse to discuss the matter with their headman first.

He said he was worried the temporary shelter would get in the way of the clearing up work.

Thirty-nine units of the 52door longhouse ( Rumah Jalak) were burnt on July 12, causing 250 people to lose their home.
