Country & Western Nite a huge success
KUCHING: The fi rst Country & Western Nite organised by Bidayuh Country Music Lovers is a success, attracting more than 500 people to the event held at a leading hotel here Thursday night.
William Ding, on behalf of the organisers, said it was an enjoyable party as revellers came in their best cowboy and cowgirl costumes and they danced the night away to the tunes of country music and oldies.
“It is a unique party whereby we have people from all walks of life interacting with each other regardless of their status. We have judges, lawyers, politicians, civil servants, professionals from various sectors and even those who came from the ‘kampung’

(villages) at the event, catching up with old friends and making new ones.
“Everybody wears countrystyle clothing and most of them are country music lovers. It is so successful that we are proposing this to be held on a yearly basis,” said William.
He said he and William Nyigor and Datuk Anthony Abang, organised the event as a non profit venture but more out of their shared passion for country and western music.
The night also saw the presence of Assistant Minister for Local Government Datu Dr Penguang Manggil, Assistant Minister for Agriculture Malcolm Mussen Lamoh, Tasik Biru assemblyman Dato Henry Harry Jinep, Serembu assemblyman Miro Simuh and politicians from both divides.
Old Tondong Road (OTR), a music band from Kampung Sibuluh in Bau, entertained the audience with songs from the popular old country acts as well as mix of oldies from the 1960s and 1970s.
A duo from the Philippines - Music Connection - were the supporting act.
Local Elvis impersonators were also invited to sing with OTR that night.
