AirAsia unit enhances features of big prepaid MasterCard

KUALA LUMPUR: AirAsia’s wholly-owned unit, TPaay Asia Sdn Bhd, has enhanced the features of the BIG Prepaid MasterCard in two formats of multi-currency prepaid cards to complement travel experience­s.

In a statement yesterday, AirAsia said the cards – BIG Prepaid MasterCard Plastic and the BIG Prepaid MasterCard Virtual – would allow holders to carry six currencies in one card.

“The new MasterCard Plastic comes with a physical card and has a card limit of up to RM10,000, can be used to make in-store and online purchases as well as automatic teller machines withdrawal­s,” it said.

The Virtual will enable the cardholder to make online purchases with a card limit of up to RM1,500 making it convenient and secure for frequent online shoppers, it said.

“Similar to an electronic wallet, the cards are ideal as alternativ­e payment methods as compared to carrying cash as it is versatile, secure and accessible at over 35.9 million locations worldwide accepted by MasterCard for in-store and online purchases,” it said.

Among other benefits, the airline said, the cardholder­s will also enjoy zero processing fee for AirAsia flight bookings, exclusive priority access to AirAsia’s promotions, earn BIG Points for overseas transactio­ns and the ability to lockin rates for five currencies namely US dollar, Australian dollar, British pound, Singapore dollar and euro at great exchange rates.

Spencer Lee, Head of Commercial of AirAsia Bhd, said the airline was always looking at new and innovative ways to give their guests the most value and provide convenienc­e for the guests while they travel.
