Tasik Biru 4X4 Carnival may go ‘international’ next year
KUCHING: Tasik Biru 4X4 Carnival 2017 may not only be organised on a bigger scale but with an international participation, too.
Delighted with the outcome of this year’s edition, which was held from July 22-24 with 26 off-road 4x4 vehicles in action, its organisers hoped to invite the big boys from abroad next year.
Organising committee member Laurence Baraw opined that inviting international participants would give the carnival greater prominence.
“But to attract them (international participation) we must have proper facilities,” he told The Borneo Post.
Laurence noted that off-road 4x4 activities had a strong following in Sarawak and Sabah; hence it was high time for Tasik Biru 4X4 Carnival to go international.
Meanwhile, Wilfred Sim, who is FEM Event management director and Tasik Biru 4X4 Carnival organising chairman, said to transform the carnival into a international event, support from the local authorities, sponsors and local elected representatives was crucial. “We cannot do it alone.” Another organising committee member, Titus Tay, chipped in that making the event grander would also spur tourism in Bau, and probably Kuching, as well.
During the conference before the carnival started, Tasik Biru assemblyman Dato Henry Harry Jinep had also hoped for the carnival to have international appeal to bring in the crowd to Bau.
“Before I was elected recently, one of the things that I have promised my voters is to make Tasik Biru constituency a lively place with many activities and events. “Hence, I hope the public will support all events in Bau to help Bau become a lively place.”
