Learn new language this Saturday

-

KUCHING: Learning a new language can be fun and rewarding, yet intimidating when it comes to taking the fi rst step.

When Momentum KCH founder Nazreen Muhamad was in France, he attended an event where foreign language speakers were invited to share the language with those interested.

This was the inspiration for Babel Language Exchange # 1, which will take place this Saturday at Le Cafe Rouge, Green Hill.

“Currently the language learning community is not that strong yet and it’s a shame as languages are such a great thing. It’s a skill people can learn for fun or self-improvement,” he told The Borneo Post.

With many expatriates based in Kuching, Nazreen hopes this will further open up interactions between them and the local people.

The native speakers will host a table with a partner and can help learners get to know the language. Participants just need to go to the table to learn from them.

“We need two volunteers per language to be table hosts. We are looking for those who can speak Russian, Japanese and Iban. We already have hosts for German, French, Malay and Mandarin.”

The event is free but space is limited. To ensure enough seats, contact Momentum KCH via fb.com/momentumkch or at momentumkch@ gmail.com to RSVP.

Russian, Japanese or Iban speakers who wish to volunteer can also get in touch at the same contact channels.

Momentum KCH is a non-profit project that supports the local arts and entrepreneurship scene in Kuching through events and videos.

They also venture outside the two categories if the event benefits local communities.
