Report of student hospitalised after being slapped to be ready next week

-

SERDANG: The full report on the religious teacher who had slapped a female student at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Batu Gajah, Kelantan, will be ready by next week, said Education director- general Tan Sri Khair Mohamad Yusof.

He said the department was now conducting an internal investigation and comparing the reports from the Kelantan State Education Department, the District Education Office and the student’s guardian.

“We are now comparing the information provided to finalise the full report to be presented next week,” he said.

He was commenting on the latest development pertaining to the case when met at the Ministry of Education’s Aidilfitri gathering at the Malaysian Agro- Exposition Park, here yesterday.

During the incident at 8.30 am on Tuesday, Siti Nursyahida Zulkifli, 15, claimed to have been slapped on the back of her head three times by a religious teacher during the school assembly after denying that she had shaved her eyebrows.

As a result of the incident, the eldest of four siblings was brought to the Tanah Merah Hospital before referring her to the Raja Perempuan Zainab II Hospital ( HRPZ II) for further treatment after suffering neurological problems.

Asked whether the ministry was ready for a lawsuit as the father was considering taking the case to the court, Khair said as of now the ministry was more focused on investigating what really happened in the incident.

“The question of how we are going to cope if the case is brought to the court ... we have to see first how the case was taken by the family,” he said.

Newspapers yesterday reported that the father, Zulkif li Yunus, 58, was ready to take legal action if her daughter did not recover or became paralyzed due to the incident. — Bernama
