Man gunned down at traffic light junction
KUALA LUMPUR: A man was killed after he was shot at 18 times at the Jalan Taman Ibu Kota/Jalan Genting Klang traffic light junction here yesterday.
Kuala Lumpur police chief Datuk Amar Singgh Ishar Singh said the 43-year- old victim was driving his Honda Accord car when the incident occurred at about 3.35pm.
He said closed- circuit television ( CCTV) recordings in the area revealed that four men, in two motorcycles, had approached the car.
“The recordings also revealed that two shooters were the pillion riders.
“Police found 18 9mm bullet shells at the scene,” he said in a statement here yesterday.
Amar Singh said further investigations revealed that there were traces of 12 gunshots on the car’s left window and four others on the right window.
The victim died at the scene after he sustained serious injuries in the head, body and thighs, he said.
Meanwhile, Kuala Lumpur Criminal Investigation Department chief SAC Rusdi Mohd Isa said the victim, who lived in Taman Melati, Wangsa Maju, was on his way to Setapak Sentral here to visit his nephew for a drinking session when the incident occurred.
“The deceased’s family came to the scene to identify (the body) and (they have) confirmed that the man is one of their family members.
“Police are looking at all angles (including) his activities and money- changing business,” he told reporters when met at the scene.
Asked whether the shooting incident involved gang- related activities, Rusdi said he did not rule out the possibility.
“Based on our information, the victim had been involved in gangrelated activities in the past,” he said, adding that the deceased had a past criminal record and was detained in 2014.
He, however, declined comment any further.
The deceased’s body was sent to Kuala Lumpur Hospital for post-mortem.
Police urged those with information on the incident to come forward to facilitate investigations. — Bernama— Bernama
