Over 46,000 associations, companies involve in economic census 2016 in Perak

-

IPOH: A total of 46,867 associations and companies in Perak will be involved in the Economic Census 2016 carried out by the Statistics Department from May to November.

Director, Department of Statistics Malaysia, Perak, Muhammad Amri Idris said the number of associations and companies participating in this census decreased from about 76,000 involved during the last census in 2011.

“The number has declined because there are associations/companies in Perak that have closed down or are inactive,” he told a press conference on Economic Census 2016 for the state here yesterday.

Muhammad Amri said out of the 46,867 entities, 71 per cent were in the services sector (except wholesalers, retail and motor vehicles), manufacturing (12 per cent); construction (11 per cent); agriculture (5.0 per cent) as well as mining and quarry (1.0 per cent).

He said the Economic Census 2016 was undertaken as a reference for 2015 which collates as well as prepare aggregate information and economic sector profile.

Since May this year, the department has sent survey forms to all the 46,867 associations/companies involved, but to- date, only 45 per cent had returned the forms, he said.

“We are giving 30 days to the associations/companies to return the forms. If we did not received them by the deadline, our officers will visit the associations/companies. During our visits, we urged them to give cooperation to our officers to ensure the census will be carried out successfully,” he said, adding some 200 officers would be involved in Economic Census 2016 in Perak this time.

Muhammad Amri also assured the associations/companies not to worry as any information given would be treated in confidence.
