Cyberview, Atilze to build LoRa network in Cyberjaya

-

KUALA LUMPUR: Cyberview Sdn Bhd and Atilze Digital Sdn Bhd have signed a memorandum of collaboration (MoC) to build, operate and commercialise a citywide long range (LoRa) network in Cyberjaya.

The collaboration will strategically positioned Cyberjaya as the first smart city in Southeast Asia connected to a city-wide LoRa network.

Cyberview managing director Datuk Faris Yahaya said through building, operating and commercialising the LoRa network in Cyberjaya, the tech city would be primed for Internet of Things ( IoT) applications, including smart city elements.

These are made up of smart parking solutions, security systems, environmental records and asset trackers to track vehicles, people and pets.

“What is more exciting is the potential for developers and solution providers looking to test next generation interactive mobile applications that generate open data, thus creating new value chains across industries in real life city setting.

“The possibilities for applications are endless; from setting up and adopting infrastructure for renewable energy solutions and cloud platform to big data analytics of healthcare and medical devices,” Faris told a press conference yesterdday.

As a living lab, he said everyone could play a role in shaping the future of Cyberjaya, while urging all ecosystem partners, who were already equipped with IoT applications, to join hands, integrating their IoT applications to be LoRa enabled in the Cyberjaya LoRa network.

Meanwhile, Atilze chief executive officer Gerard Lim said LoRa, which uses a long range low power consumption, has been proven in the Netherlands in saving costs due to minimal infrastructure requirements, fast deployment with minimal configuration and lower cost of gateway and modules.

“I believe by adopting the concept of Smart City Living, we will improve the quality of urban living standards, safety and efficiency of our community.

“Using LoRa technology will be cost effective as power consumption would cost 10 times cheaper from normal usage, and enhance IoT applications for Cyberjaya in improving urban management,” Lim said.

The inked MoC is set for a one-year period where IoT applications will be used as pilot projects.

Atilze was formerly known as VLT Wholesale Sdn Bhd and is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Yen Global Bhd, focusing on wireless communication devices and IoT. — Bernama
