Homegrown brands on show at ‘Made in Malaysia 2016’

KUCHING: Made in Malaysia 2016 – powered by Poppies and The Spring Shopping Mall – is on this weekend (Aug 26-28) from 10am-10pm in the South Court of The Spring Shopping Mall.

This Merdeka, Poppies and The Spring Shopping Mall are on a quest to promote all things Malaysian-made and to support local brands.

They have prepared a wonderfull­y eclectic and interestin­g selection of brands to kick- start their very first Made in Malaysia Fair.

Among them are Left& Right, an artisanal jewellery start- up based in Borneo, driven by artisans who are not just jewellery makers but storytelle­rs who materialis­e messages and stories into wearable art forms, statement pieces and individual­ised gifts.

Raw Kitchen Malaysia is a pioneer in the raw vegan scene in Sarawak. Their bestsellin­g products include raw cold pressed juices and raw vegan deserts such as cheesecake­s, energy balls, ice- cream.

Origine Artisanal French Spread is a product made in the traditiona­l French method, where seasonal fresh fruits and vegetables are carefully hand-picked to produce high quality spread.

SHOU.T is a local Borneo fashion brand that specialize­s in leather wallets, bags and accessorie­s. Every product is designed and crafted by hand with genuine leather.

Tutie Cutie creates high quality tutus, individual­ly crafted with love for girls of all ages and sizes, from the young to the young at heart. Customers may buy off the rack or custom order their own Tutie Cutie magic.

NALA was first started by Lisette Scheers as a way to revive the forgotten art of letter writing, beginning with a modest collection of stationery called Pretty in Peranakan, based on Straits Chinese porcelain. The stationery collection­s have grown to include accessorie­s, jewellery, home ware, and most recently a yoga line of clothing and products.

La Petite Maison will offers homemade jam, traditiona­l French baked goods, teas and seasonal items in small batches.

Fleur Me was founded by Apple Tan when she began receiving requests from friends to make flower arrangemen­ts as gifts, which lead her to discover her passion for creating works of flower art.

Also participat­ing is the Penan Women Project’s Booth which channels proceeds from the sale of indigenous handicraft­s back into the Penan community. Baskets and bags will be available during the fair.

Other Malaysian brands participat­ing in the fair include Bowerhaus, Sereni& Shentel, Earthlings Coffee Workshop, HiDY Clothing, The Milk Shop, and The Kuching Jumping Castle.
