Connect with relevant ministries, Dayaks urged
KUCHING: Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah has urged the Dayaks to get themselves connected with the relevant ministries to help the state to uplift the rural agricultural economy.
They could do this through land development with the involvement of the private sector, Uggah said after receiving a courtesy call from Dayak Chamber of Commerce and Industry ( DCCI) yesterday.
“If there are DCCI members interested, they may get in touch with the relevant ministries,” said Uggah who also is Minister of Modernisation of Agriculture and Rural Economy.
DCCI president Datuk Joseph Salang meanwhile said that members comprising those involved in various industries were willing to participate in the implementation of government programmes for the development of local communities.

Apart from Salang, other members of the delegation included Kilat Beriak (deputy president), Libat Langub (secretary general), Allan Keripin (treasurer general) and vice-presidents Leonard Martin Uneng, Datuk Gerawat Gala, Christopher Gira, Livan Tajang and Datuk Winsel Ahtos as well as supreme council members Malcolm Mussen Lamoh, Bell Aggan, Mutang Tagal and its executive secretary Terence Temenggong Jayang.
Salang, who is also Julau MP, said the visit was also aimed at congratulating Uggah on his recent appointment as deputy chief minister and also for holding key ministerial positions.

Saban assemblyman is an Iban from the Dayak commuity.
DCCI yesterday also took time to pay a courtesy call on another Dayak Iban in the person of Deputy Chief Minister Tan Sri Datuk Amar Dr James Masing who is also Minister of Infrastructure Development and Transportation at his office here.
Among matters mentioned during the meeting included the involvement of how Dayak contractors involved in road and building works could seek business opportunities in a number of big infrastructure development projects taking place throughout the state, especially the Pan Borneo Highway project.
