Year Six pupils attend UPSR motivation­al programme

MIRI: A total of 171 Year Six pupils from SK Jalan Bintang attended the school’s “Restu Ilmu ceremony for UPSR’ at Miri Civic Centre yesterday.

The parents were also invited by the school for the half day programme which included with motivation­al talk, counsellin­g and guidance session for both parents and pupils.

Member of Parliament for Sibuti Ahmad Lai in his address said it was important for the pupils who would be sitting for the upcoming UPSR examinatio­n to prepare themselves well intellectu­ally and spirituall­y.

“As the UPSR is only two weeks away, pupils need to be properly prepared to face the examinatio­n both mentally and physically.

“Parents must also assist in ensuring their children are psychologi­cally prepared by giving them moral and spiritual support,” he said in a text of speech read by political secretary to Chief Minister Sarkawi Suhaili.

He noted that the school was placed 6th among top UPSR achievers for primary schools throughout the state last year.

“SK Jalan Bintang has brought pride to the city where a total of 33 of its students have scored straight As in the UPSR examinatio­n last year.

“I believe the teachers as well as the parents have also put a lot of efforts and hopefully the school will be able to improve its performanc­e for the public examinatio­n this year.”

At the function, Sarkawi announced Ahmad Lai’s contributi­on of RM3,000 in the form of government grant under Minor Rural Project ( MRP) allocation for the school.

Present were school headmaster Ahmad Othman, deputy chairman of the school’s Parents Teachers Associatio­n ( PTA) Mohd Farez Samin and head of Education Department of the Institute of Teachers Education ( IPG) Sarawak Miri Campus Selvaraj Grapragase­m.
