Work with regulators for products good to use in Malaysia — Salleh
PUTRAJAYA: Information and communications technology ( ICT) companies and importers should work closely with the regulators in ensuring that their products are good to use in Malaysia, said Communications and Multimedia Minister Datuk Seri Dr Salleh Said Keruak.
He said ICT companies, while bringing in the latest technology and products to be used by Malaysians, should bear in mind the technical requirements that were adopted in Malaysia.
Speaking at the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 Enterprise Business Showcase here yesterday, Salleh cited the products on display yesterday as examples that might use assigned frequency band determined by the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission ( MCMC) that was different from the band in the country of origin. For consumers, he advised them to ensure their devices had been duly approved.
“... can save you from the headaches that may befall should anything happen to your ‘underwater’ or illegally-imported devices as well as those that fail to comply to technical requirements set by the regulators,” he said.
Salleh also urged ICT companies to put data protection and security measures above all else when producing and marketing their products.
“As technology permeates our lives at a great speed, so do the dangers we expose ourselves to as we get more entwined with technology.
“It goes without saying that mobile security is ever so crucial to keep personal and professional data safe and secure,” he said.
The Galaxy Note 7 Enterprise Business Showcase, hosted by Samsung Malaysia Electronics, complete with Smart Office solutions, gave members of the media, business professionals and government officials the opportunity to explore various business solutions offered by the brand’s latest mobile innovation.
Also present were Communications and Multimedia Ministry secretary- general Datuk Seri Dr Sharifah Zarah Syed Ahmad, Samsung Malaysia Electronics president Lee Sang Hoon and Samsung Malaysia Electronics Vice President of Mobile and IT Business Unit, Lee Jui Siang. — Bernama
