Umno, BN must adopt the politics of rhetorics and service to stay relevant

-

UMNO and Barisan Nasional ( BN) will remain relevant by showing itself as practising the politics of rhetorics and services, said Umno Treasurer Datuk Seri Dr Salleh Said Keruak.

Salleh, who also Communications and Multimedia Minister, said the politics of rhetorics must be interpreted in the form of explanations to the people on the efforts of the party other than replying to issues played by the opposition.

On the politics of service, Salleh said Umno and BN must continue to serve all strata of society and not just party members.

“Umno and BN too must show it is not a party which practices emotional politics by giving the opportunity to the people to make comparisons between the party and the opposition.

“Even if there are shortcomings, Umno and BN endeavour to serve the people which is different from the opposition who quarrel with one another, in fact, they don’t even have a shadow cabinet,” he said when met by reporters during a visit to the Media Centre in conjunction with the 2016 Umno General Assembly here yesterday.

Salleh said to continue getting the support of the people especially with the advent of the 14th General Election ( GE14), Umno and BN must be dynamic by understanding the aspiration of the people including relating to the cost of living and housing.

He said good leaders and governments always listen to the pulse of the people and do not assume they are everknowing.

“We must remember the people at the grassroots have no time for politicking, everyday they work to live and they are the silent majority.

“We must also look at a different perspective, for example, if it is a housing issue. How are those earning RM3,000 or RM5,000 going to buy a house, are the houses provided by 1Malaysia People’s Housing ( PR1MA) Corporation and Syarikat Perumahan Negara Bhd ( PSNB) adequate?” Salleh added. — Bernama is
