Unimap and University of Moratuwa plan to establish cooperatio­n

COLOMBO, Sri Lanka: Universiti Malaysia Perlis ( UniMAP) and University of Moratuwa plan to establish cooperatio­n in various fields of study, especially engineerin­g.

The two universiti­es signed the letter of intent ( LOI) when a delegation from UniMAP led by the Perlis Raja Muda, Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra Jamalullai­l visited the university, located in a large suburb of Colombo city and regarded as the most sought-after technologi­cal university in Sri Lanka.

UniMAP was represente­d by its vice- chancellor, Prof Datuk Dr Zul Azhar Zahid Jamal and University of Moratuwa, also by its vice- chancellor, Prof Ananda Jayawardan­e.

Both universiti­es expressed confidence that such cooperatio­n would open up more opportunit­ies for internatio­nal networking when bolstered with an agreement of cooperatio­n.

Tuanku Syed Faizuddin, who is also UniMAP chancellor, witnessed the signing of the LOI together with the UniMAP delegation and highrankin­g officials ofMoratuwa University.

Also present was the Malaysian High Commission­er to Sri Lanka, Wan Zaidi Wan Abdullah.

Earlier, the Perlis Raja Muda and UniMAP delegation were taken on a tour of the university and also briefed on the institutio­n, establishe­d in 1972 and is located on the bank of Bolgoda Lake in Katubedda, Moratuwa.

The visit to the university was part of UniMAP’s six- day Knowledge Tour to Sri Lanka which began yesterday, and the University of Moratuwa was the first higher learning institutio­n here to be visited by the delegation. — Bernama
