Tony Leung joins the cast of ‘Monster Hunt’ sequel
BEIJING: Actor Tony Leung, star of In The Mood for Love and Infernal Affairs, has joined the cast of the sequel to Monster Hunt 2.
Monster Hunt is the second most successful Chinese film of all time, overtaken only this year by the Stephen Chow blockbuster The Mermaid.
Tony will play one of the lead characters who changes the course of monster king Wuba’s journey. Others joining the cast include Chinese pop icon Li Yuchun ( Bodyguards and Assassins) and Taiwanese actor Yo Yang ( Cold War 2).
Principal shooting is currently underway in Beijing, with director Raman Hui and the original cast, including Bai Baihui and Jing Boran. The completed film is set for release in 2018.
Released last summer, Monster Hunt grossed 2.43 billion

In his recent projects, Tony has balanced roles that allow him to embody aspects of the relaxed cosmopolitanism characteristic of Hong Kong culture, with roles that explicitly promote Chinese nationalism.
From 2007’s Lust, Caution to the upcoming holidayseason release See You Tomorrow, Tony has starred only in coproductions with mainland companies.
