Aqua Ecotech’s new technology to boost OER

KUALA LUMPUR: Aqua Ecotech Sdn Bhd’s new technology called AquaEco- SRORS is set to boost oil extraction rate (OER) by 0.4- 0.6 per cent and contribute to higher revenue of RM1.2 billion per annum for 450 palm oil millers in the country.

AquaEco- SRORS is a palm oil raw sludge filtration.

“The AquaEco- SRORS system will transform the palm oil industry by allowing millers to address a major problem and costly affair for decades, which is the palm oil sludge,” director Andrew Liew said yesterday.

He said currently the industry’s average OER is 20.65 per cent and by using the system it could increase it further to 21.15 per cent with the existing oil palm fruit production.

The company is now in talks with three to four millers who had shown their interests, he told reporters after the launch of the technology yesterday.

Liew said the system’s installation cost would vary between RM5 million and RM12 million depending on the respective oil mill’s capacity and set-up.

He said the company is currently working closely with the Malaysian Palm Oil Board for the necessary approval and verifications.

Besides Malaysia, Aqua Ecotech planned to introduce the system in Indonesia, which is the world’s biggest palm oil producer.

Out of the 450 palm oil mills operating across the country, two mills – one each in Sandakan, Sabah and Bota, Perak, have already installed the system.

Aqua Ecotech started the research and development for the system in 2011 and it has been patented in Malaysia and internationally. — Bernama
