Banner competition among activities slated for division-level Maulidur-Rasul 2016 celebration
SIBU: A banner competition will be among the programmes for this year’s division-level Maulidur-Rasul celebration, to take place at Sarawak Islamic Complex here this Dec 12.
According to Sibu Resident Hii Chang Kee, who is the event organising chairman, participation is open to all government departments and agencies, as well as local non- governmental organisations.
“The banners should be placed around the (Sarawak Islamic) Complex on Dec 11 – by noon, the latest,” he said.
The annual Maulidur-Rasul – held to commemorate the birthday of Prophet Muhammad – here will also comprise the traditional procession. Prior to that, all contingents will converge on the compound of the complex, with the programme scheduled to commence at 6.30am.
Hii said there would also be prizes for the contingents to win.
“So far (as at Dec 1), there are 33 contingents consisting of 3,201 participants that have confirmed their participation. We are targeting to host 50 contingents with 5,000 participants,” he added, adding that those from non- Muslim organisations were encouraged to join.
‘So far, only the Federation of Seven Clans Association has confirmed its participation.”
The 3km procession will begin from the complex, passing Kampung Hilir, Kampung Datu Lama, Tun Abang Haji Openg Road, the Resident’s Roundabout and Awang Ramli Amit Road, before returning to the complex.
Assistant Minister for Science Research and Biotechnology Dr Annuar Rapaee will officiate at the opening ceremony at 7am.
