KUCHING: Six students from institutes of higher learning ( IPT) and 21 associations and organisations under Pantai Damai constituency received monetary assistance from Assistant Minister for Public Utilities ( Electricity and Telecommunications) Abdul Rahman Junaidi yesterday.

According to Abdul Rahman, the monetary assistance is to lighten the financial burden of those who had started tertiary education either in Sarawak or Peninsula Malaysia.

“We have been giving out similar monetary assistance to our students almost every month in the last four years,” said Abdul Rahman who is also Pantai Damai assemblyman prior to the handover of the assistance at his office in Bangunan Baitulmakmur yesterday.

He said from his observation, the number of students who entered IPT under the Pantai Damai constituency had been increasing, based on the frequency of such programmes.

He said school leavers who managed to enter any institute of higher learning should mail a photocopy of their offer letter to Pantai Damai Service Centre.

Such programmes can inspire secondary school students to study hard to gain entry into an IPT.

“The future of our state lies in education,” he added.

Students receiving the assistance yesterday were Raden Fitriniza Raden Shafarie, Raden Sartika Raden Shafarie, Dayangku Khalisah Awangku Zulmazdi, Aizat Mohiden, Dayang Khairunissa Awang Zol Kapali and Shamirul Amir Sahdi.

Among the organisations receiving aids to fund their activities were Bandar Baru Samariang Chapel; Warriors Oldboys Rugby Club; Masjid Darul Islam in Kampung Bintawa Hilir and SMK Tun Abang Haji Openg.
