PPKS plans to hold roadshow for rural youths in 2017
KUCHING: Sarawak Skills Development Centre (PPKS) plans to hold a roadshow on technical and vocational education and job opportunities next year.
According to PPKS chief executive officer Mohd Isham Fauzi, the target group for the ‘Jelajah Desa’ programme will comprise parents, students and teachers – adding that it will be conducted in collaboration with the assemblymen of the rural areas under the roadshow’s coverage.
“We have met with the state Barisan Nasional Backbenchers Club ( BNBBC) chairman Abdullah Saidol, who is Semop assemblyman. In principle, they ( BNBBC) have agreed to our proposal.
“We have identified the (state) constituencies where we will hold our roadshow – all of them are in the outskirts of Kuching city,” he told The Borneo Post when met after having presented the PPKS programme sheet to Abdullah at the State Legislative Assembly ( DUN) Complex here recently.
Mohd Isham said under ‘Jelajah Desa’, the assemblyman of a hosting area would provide the infrastructure – namely the venue, invitations and refreshments – for the programme, while PPKS would plan and run the activities such as exhibitions, talks, workshops and demonstrations.
“PPKS will disseminate information throughout the roadshow, especially those on job opportunities and the future for holders of vocational and technical education certificates or diplomas.”
Additionally, he said PPKS would also be running the ‘TRAK Camp’ for those waiting for their SPM and STPM results next year.
The month-long camp, according to him, is aimed at exposing the school-leavers to vocational and technical skills training.
“Those selected for the camp will be put up at our hostel for one month – for free – throughout which, they will be exposed to various programmes that are conducted under PPKS,” he said.
Mohd Isham said PPKS would also introduce a ‘ B40 Group Programme’, focusing on the poor and those from the low-income bracket.
“Those wishing to follow any of the skills training programmes at PPKS can forward their request through their respective assemblyman. From there, we will request for funds from the federal government to finance their studies at PPKS.
“The B40 Programme is for adults who come from poor families,” he said.
