Umno General Assembly not a racist assembly, says Melaka chief minister

-

THE Umno General Assembly is, among others, an avenue for Malays to remind themselves not to forget about their fate and not a racist assembly, said Melaka Chief Minister Datuk Seri Idris Haron.

“This is an assembly for the Malays where 100 per cent of the participants are Malays and Bumiputera. The assembly reminds the Malays that if we are careless, and not cautious with our position, it will be taken over by the DAP,” he told Bernama, here, yesterday.

He was commenting on the statement made by the Pakatan Harapan Secretariat chief Datuk Saifuddin Abdullah as reported by a news portal yesterday, who claimed that Umno president Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak’s policy speech yesterday was a path to racial disaster.

Idris, who is also Umno Supreme Council member, had also described Saifuddin as having ‘ lost the wisdom’ since joining the coalition for makng such a statement.

Najib in his policy speech at the Umno General Assembly said if the country falls to a DAP-led government, it would cause the Malay privileges and institutions to go ‘extinct’.

Idris said, Umno was set up for the Malays and had fought for the survival of the race, however, through Barisan Nasional, Umno had been tolerant with its component parties that represented the other races.

“Within BN, there is MCA for the Chinese, they can say anything about their race, and we have the MIC for the Indians, however when we are together under BN, all these parties unite for the interest of all Malaysians.

“This greatly differs from the DAP which claims that they are multiracial but this is only a mask that they wear, they only fight for one race,” he added. — Bernama
