KPDNKK: Over RM22 mln worth of seized goods recorded in statewide ops throughout 2016

SIBU: The state Domestic Trade, Cooperativ­es and Consumeris­m Ministry ( KPDNKK) has acted upon 714 non- compliance cases reported so far, involving seizures of goods worth RM22,826,348 from 75,147 premises all over Sarawak.

State KPDNKK deputy director Abdul Hafidz Rahim said during the statewide operations from Jan 1 to Dec 4 this year, the total compound collected throughout was RM80,600.

He also said of the raided 75,147 premises, 56,031 were in town areas and 19,116 in the rural areas.

“The majority of the cases are related to non- compliance with the Price Control and Anti- Profiteeri­ng Act 2011 – there are 354 cases, with the total confiscate­d goods valued at RM54,514.58 and the compound collected is worth RM43,800.

“The flouting of the Weight and Measure Act 1972 stands second with 199 cases, with goods seized worth RM 56,446.60 and compound collected worth RM27,050,” he said yesterday.

Abdul Hafidz also disclosed that there were 104 cases under the Trade Descriptio­ns Act 2011 goods seized valued at RM190,251.55 and compound amounted to RM6,800.

“The biggest seizure comes from the 26 cases of infringing the Control of Supplies Act 1961, where the confiscate­d items are valued RM22,474,891.40.”

Adding on, he said there were 18 cases of non- adherence to Consumer Protection Act 1999 with goods confiscate­d and compound worth RM7,893 and RM2,050, respective­ly.

On Copyright Act 1987, Abdul Hafidz said there were seven cases and the confiscate­d items were worth RM42,351.30, while non- compliance with the Hire Purchase Act 1967 had six cases with no item confiscate­d except for a compound amounting to RM800.

“There is no case as far as the Direct Sales Act and Anti-Pyramid Scheme 1993 is concerned,” he added.
