Ugak brings Christmas cheer to patients at Kapit Hospital

-

KAPIT: Hulu Rajang Member of Parliament Datuk Wilson Ugak Kumbong on Saturday visited Kapit Hospital to present Christmas hampers to patients and at the same time to find out about the needs and shortcomings faced by the hospital.

He was accompanied during the visit by Kapit Division Resident Joseph Belayong, Deputy Resident Galong Luang, Bukit Mabong District officer Douglas Pungga and senior officers from the Resident and District Offices.

They visited the haemodialysis department, Female Ward, Male Ward, Surgical Ward, Children’s Ward, Maternity Ward and Accident and Emergency Ward to present festive gifts and bring cheer to the patients.

During the two hour visit, Ugak highlighted the various safety measures especially the need to check and maintain the wiring system to prevent short circuits or fire outbreaks.

Ugak was briefed on the hospital’s services by its director Dr Hii King Ching who revealed that a proposal to erect a new seven-storey hospital building has been submitted to the Ministry of Health.

Ugak meanwhile suggested that Kapit Hospital take over the Dewan Suarah across the road as its health services centre.

“My suggestion is very simple, let the Ministry of Health Malaysia acquire the civic centre across the road and renovate for its healthcare. A bridge can be built to connect the hospital to the civic centre. This is the fastest and most practical way to improve hospital services here,” said Ugak.

He explained that the civic centre can be relocated to another place on the outskirts of Kapit Bazaar as part of the town’s expansion programme.

Meanwhile Kapit Hospital is facing an acute shortage of car-parks and an urgent need to build an exit road.
