RM617,625 in MRP grants given to various bodies in Pelagus

KAPIT: Pelagus assemblyma­n Wilson Nyabong Ijang recently handed out Minor Rural Project (MRP) funds totalling RM617,625 to various JKKKs ( Village Security and Developmen­t Committees), women’s bureaus, associatio­ns, clubs, parent-teacher associatio­ns and religious institutio­ns.

Additional­ly, Wilson also provided funds for a longboat equipped with an outboard engine to serve as a community hearse to ferry coffins from Sibu to Kapit or from Kapit to the respective longhouse.

He also set up an education fund to promote quality education in Pelagus. Those furthering their studies at universiti­es or institutes of higher learning will receive RM500. Schools are also encouraged to apply for funds to organise activities for parents, teachers and pupils on the importance of education as a stepping stone to a better future.

On Saturday, Wilson presented MRP grants to several recipients, namely Gelima Tatai Kenyalang Boat Club ( RM3,000), Kapit Police Club ( RM3,000), Gaat Water Sports Club( RM3,000), Chelsea Sports Recreation Club ( RM3,000), Melatai Sports Club ( RM5,000), Kapit Division Speedboat Associatio­n ( RM10,000), Kapit Community Developmen­t Committee ( RM15,000), Bukit Goram Kapit Methodist ( RM1,000) and JKKK Encheremin Ulu ( RM5,000).

The function was held at the Parti Rakyat Sarawak ( PRS) N61 Pelagus Service Centre. Also present were ASP Chua Su Hwa, Wilson’s administra­tive assistant Wellace Kilat and PRS Pelagus Division secretary Tuai Rumah Daniel Dian.
