Underage motorcyclist killed in road accident

-

KUCHING: A teenage motorcyclist perished in a road accident late Friday night after crashing into the side of a car at Mile 18 Kuching-Serian Road.

The deceased was identified as Mohammad Daniel Iqmal Mustaza, 15, of Kampung Lintang Baru in Serian.

In the 11.45pm incident, the teen and a 20-year-old village mate were said to be making their way back home from a fun fair at Siburan bazaar when they struck a car driven by a 61-yearold man after the latter turned into a junction in front of them.

The collision left Mohammad Daniel seriously injured and saw him being rushed to the Sarawak General Hospital, where he succumbed around 3am while undergoing treatment.

His friend suffered only minor injuries in the accident while the car driver was unhurt.

State Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department acting chief ASP Mathew Manggie said initial investigation revealed the boys were making their way towards Serian when they rammed into the rear left door of the car, which was making a right turn into a junction from the opposite side of the road.

Mathew also confirmed that the teen did not possess a driver’s licence as he was underage, and that police have classified the incident under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

Meanwhile, family members of the deceased were present at the hospital upon being notified of the incident and revealed that the teenager, who was the youngest of five siblings, was the third sibling to have tragically perished in a road accident.

His elder brother- the third in the family- disclosed the first death happened in 2001 during an accident in Panchor involving Mohammad Daniel’s elder brother (the fourth sibling), while the second death happened in 2013 when his elder sister (the second sibling) was killed after her car collided with a lorry at Tapah.
