MIRI: United People’s Party (UPP), Pujut branch had picked its chairman Bruce Chai to be the candidate for Miri Parliamentary seat in the next 14th General Election (GE14).

He was nominated and endorsed at the party’s seventh branch meeting at the headquarters office here yesterday, which passed three resolutions including the endorsement.

Another resolution was to write to all Barisan Nasional (BN) component parties, informing them of the branch’s choice and seek cooperation from their branches here.

However, UPP is aware that

This could create a friendly and healthy ‘Potential Candidate Nomination Race’ within the ruling coalition family, and ultimately identify a candidate who would secure a win for the state coalition. — Bruce Chai, UPP Pujut branch chairman

other BN component parties might also nominate their own candidates for the same seat.

“This could create a friendly and healthy `Potential Candidate Nomination Race’ within the ruling coalition family, and ultimately identify a candidate who would secure a win for the state coalition,” Chai who chaired the meeting said.

The third resolution was to adopt a strategy on a road map for the nomination race.

Chai said the strategy would involve the establishment of full time ‘Mobile Action Team’ (MAT) and operation centres to engage with the rakyat at grass root level, cooperate with the ruling coalition component parties and liaise with various non-governm ental organisations (NGOs) and associations.

“We will also focus on the pursuance of national issues and policies,” Chai asserted.

The meeting also touched on the public health care centres such as the upgrading of Miri Hospital which needed more specialists, doctors, beds and other necessary facilities.

Chai hoped the BN component parties would work together towards a common objective to create an environment political maturity.
