Back to school programme brings smiles to 200 pupils

KANOWIT: Boustead Plantations Berhad (BPB) and Barisan Nasional Backbenchers Council (BNBBC) brought smiles to 200 pupils in two parliamentary constituencies in Sabah and Sarawak under its ‘Back To School 2016’ corporate social responsibility (CSR) programme.

Boustead’s Estate Department (human resource and corporate communication) senior general manager Datuk Shoib Abdullah said they donated RM80,000 towards the programme that benefitted recipients in BPB estates located in the parliamentary constituencies of Kanowit (Sarawak) and Beluran (Sabah).

“Under the programme, we are giving RM200 in financial assistance to each of 200 selected primary pupils.

“Each parliamentary constituency gets RM40,000. The recipients are the children of our plantation staff and from poor families.

“This is part of our CSR programmes and we hope it will ease the burdens of parents preparing children for the 2017 schooling session,” Shoib told reporters after the presentation of assistance to recipients at Boustead-Pelita palm oil mill in Jih, Kanowit here on Friday.

He said Boustead cared for the welfare of its staff and the local community.

Meanwhile Kanowit MP Datuk Aaron Ago Dagang who was guest-of-honour at the function said the idea for the programme was mooted by BNBBC chairman Tan Sri Shahrir Abdul Samad.

Shahrir had suggested the government-linked companies (GLCs) do CSR through Barisan Nasional MPs in their areas.

Aaron commended Boustead for the assistance.
