SUPP spells out 6Cs of trouble which it can help to tackle

-

KUCHING: SUPP Stakan branch chairmanSimKiangChiokbelieves that his party and Sarawak BN can help the people attain wealth and success by addressing the 6Cs of trouble.

According to him, the first ‘C’ is cost of living, which would always be the perennial issue for any voter.

“If the cost of living is manageable or cheap then it will not be an issue but when elements of cost of living such as oil prices and the prices of food and accommodation rise then it will be a hot button issue.

“In Sarawak, we have a mindful government that has reduced electricity tariffs both commercial and residential. We have all but abolished land rates. We have abolished all tolls whilst still building our Pan Borneo Highway. These are all efforts to reduce cost of living,” he said in his inaugural speech as the branch chairman recently.

He said the second ‘C’ is Crime, which is obviously related to cost of living as crime would spike when it is difficult to get basic necessities. When crime increases, he said the people would be in a vulnerable state and this would affect their vote.

“In Sarawak we see a government that has always worked hard to nip crime in the bud. We see a very concerted effort to reduce timber thefts. Petty crimes on the streets have fallen significantly but more can be done and we in SUPP Stakan will be looking into this area seriously.

“One of the most effective ways to combat crime is prevention and as such we see community policing as a good way to combat crimes like break-ins and robberies at homes. Closed-circuit televisions (CCTVs) installed in town centres have also reduced crime.”

Sim said the third ‘ C’ is corruption and cronyism, adding that although both are different things corruption usually happens when there is cronyism.

“We have to get rid of both. In Sarawak, our Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem has made strides in this area. He has imposed an integrity pledge on all his Cabinet members as well as all senior government servants. Policies that the BN Sarawak government has made in the last two years are bearing fruit and we see more done to fight the scourge of corruption and cronyism.”

He said the fourth ‘C’ is con-jobs or more specifically internet conjobs.

“The matter that has affected me the most is the knowledge that scores of people are being lied to blatantly and many made confused by the opposition’s rhetoric and misleading statements be it in the mainstream media or the alternative media. So my friends, we must find the right formula between new technology and the old ways of doing things.”

On the fifth ‘C’, Sim said it truly a difficult one to solve but while the party members embrace the Internet, more must be done to teach the young ones and the older generation on how to sieve the barrage of information available.

“SUPP Stakan will do all in its power to help educate our constituents in these matters as we believe that education is the answer to this matter.”

He said the final ‘C’ is Chinese education, which is now practically a non-issue in Sarawak.

“Our government under the Sarawak BN and the urging of SUPP has made moves to help this sector financially and also to recognise the UEC for government jobs or government study loans and scholarships.

“So all in all Sarawak through SUPP and BN Sarawak has actually given us al l the opportunity to achieve the 6Cs I mentioned earlier. This is one big reason why I chose SUPP and Sarawak BN. I knew the principles they stand for align with mine. I knew then and confirm now that this will be our goal, to make Sarawak great, great to live, great to do business and great for our generations to come.”

Another big reason why he chose SUPP and Sarawak BN, Sim said, was that all the parties were in fact Sarawak based and run.

“We answer only to the Sarawak people and no one else. We are all multi-racial in our makeup and are like-minded in our thinking. This is where we must urge all west Malaysian based parties to quickly dissolve and form Sarawakian based parties. Show your sincerity to attain true political autonomy for Sarawak.

“As it is, as long as DAP, PKR, PAS, Amanah and Pribumi are in Sarawak, we can never ban them but if the political actors in these parties abandon them then we can ban all of them once and for all.”

Therefore, he said the people would have the last say in this matter and all they need to do is vote them all out ‘lock stock and barrel’.

“Once we do that the DUN will have the opportunity to safeguard our political future.”
