Over 200 volunteers began their journey to Lusong Laku at 5am on Friday and safely arrived at 3.30pm, despite five vehicles breaking down along the way.

Hope Place Kuching founder Kelvin Wan, who led the charity trip, handed over more than RM90,000 worth of food items to the 73 Penan families.

Among the essential food items were rice, cooking oil, salt, sugar, biscuits, noodles, chocolate malt powdered drinks and milk.

“Besides food items, we also gave used clothing, blankets, new toys for children to celebrate Christmas ( 250 toys) and five wheelchairs including five mobile toilets to the elderly,” said Wan.

Three of the wheelchairs were sponsored by the Bintulu Moral Uplifting Society.
