David Beckham denies he’s exploiting son Cruz, aged 11
LONDON: David Beckham has denied that he’s exploiting his 11year- old son Cruz by getting him to release a music single in time for Christmas.
Cruz had released his festive song If Every Day was Christmas on Capital FM last week.
This was immediately met with a barrage of criticism from TV host Piers Morgan who accused the Beckhams of exploiting Cruz to build their brand.
Cruz worked with music manager Scooter Braun for the single which David insisted was Cruz’s decision as he “wanted to give back”.
Speaking on ABC’s Good Morning America to promote the 70th anniversary of children’s charity Unicef, David said: “The amazing thing about this, we only realised Cruz has a cute little voice about nine months ago.
“Scooter has been a family friend for a while, he said bring him in, see if he enjoys it.”
Added an annoyed Beckham: “For us, we always want in our children, we always hope they’re listening to us as parents or pay attention to us, so we do a lot of work for charity.
“Cruz came to us and said: ‘How about I do a Christmas song for charity?’ There’s nothing more to this than that at the moment.”
David said he is “proud” of his son and hailed the single as “amazing”.
He finished: “He’s 11 years old, he’s still at school, he’s concentrating at school but he wanted to give back and he’s done this amazing Christmas song that’s got a lot of attention.
“I’m proud of it. He came to us with the idea. It’s kind of cool, he’s having fun.”
Morgan accused the Beckhams of using their son to promote their brand and said it was a shame that Cruz hadn’t earned his fame off his “own ability”.

Morgan tweeted: “The Beckhams pimping out their 11-year- old son Cruz into the Christmas single pop market is a new low even by their standards.”
