Huge crowd expected at Bau Christmas Parade

KUCHING: The firstever Bau Christmas Parade this evening is expected to attract a big crowd.

Parade coordinato­r William Ding said this was so because of the strong presence of the Bidayuh Christian community in Bau and its vicinity.

He said there were many Bidayuh villages in the suburbs and the majority of them were Christians of various denominati­ons.

“I believe they would not want to miss this big occasion, the first one ever held in Bau.

“We expect a good turnout especially from among the Bidayuh Christians,” he said.

and Borneo Evangelica­l Mission ( BEM), William said the parade would be led by about 200 choristers from the three churches.

William said the participan­ts would gather at Petra Methodist Church in Bau before they parade around town through its main roads.

They will then gather at the Bau Taxi Station where the main stage and a Christmas tree are put up.

Tasik Biru assemblyma­n Datuk Henry Harry Jinep has been invited to be the guest of honour and to switch on the Christmas Tree. light.

Praise and worship will be conducted by BEM Church while the Methodist Church will lead the closing prayer.

Gifts will also be presented at the function.

William, who is also Bau District Council deputy chairman, said there would also be a brief firework display in the evening to brighten up the occasion.
