State JPJ: RM3.6 mln in compound fines collected this year
SIBU: Sarawak Road Transport Department (JPJ) collected compound fines totalling RM3,609,029 between January and November this year.
JPJ assistant director (Enforcement) Albert Clement said the amount was for compounded cases throughout Sarawak.
He explained that there are three- stage payment in settling a compound, namely between one and 15 days; between 16 and 30 days; and between 31 and 60 days.
“The more they delay (in settling the compound), the more they will have to pay. If a compound is not settled within 60 days, the next will be legal action,” Albert told The Borneo Post yesterday.

within 90 days as stated in the summon paper, he added.
He cautioned that those who failed to attend the court case or mention case would be blacklisted.
“This will be based on their vehicle numbers and Identity Card ( MyKad) numbers. Once, they are blacklisted, they will not be able to renew their driving licence and road tax,” he explained.
Albert pointed out that both last date to offer compound and court case is clearly stated on the summon paper.
Towards this end, he said expired road tax plus insurance is not compoundable, where offenders will be directly charged in court.
Meanwhile, the department had acted against 1,696 vehicles across the state until November this year for overloading.
He disclosed that most of the cases involved tipper-trucks, oil palm and logging vehicles.
A total of 82 summonses were issued throughout the four- day operation from Dec 11 till 14, of which 10 were for overloading, 28 related to dangerous loading and load protruding from behind, while the rest were for other traffic offences.
The special operation was carried out in Miri, Bintulu and Sibu by two teams from the state JPJ.
