MBKS to keep its distance from inept contractors
KUCHING: Kuching South City Council ( MBKS) has advised its grass- cutting and drainmaintenance contractors to meet contract responsibilities or face contract termination.
MBKS mayor Datuk James Chan said those who did well might have their contracts extended without bidding.
“Next year will be a tough one for us due to the economic downturn, but whatever the uncertainties, we must not compromise our integrity,” he said during a briefing session with contractors yesterday.
Contractors’ performances, he said, would be assessed with a demerit point score system, meaning the contracts of below par contractors would be terminated.

were weekend to inspect the sites.
Noting the numerous challenges and obstacles preventing contractors from carrying out their jobs, especially due to irresponsible dumping of wastes and unattended greenery by residents, he urged contractors to perform their tasks satisfactorily at the least.

he said.
“This morning, I saw with my own eyes how a woman motorist just threw tissue paper out from the car window. And then there are bags of rubbish thrown into drains, abandoned greenery on public green spaces, various unwanted items left unattended by the road side, among others,” he added.
Chan thus questioned why the opposition did not advise the public to play a greater role in keeping their home surrounding clean.
“Anyway, teamwork is key to getting our job done and delivering our objectives for the public,” he said.
