PPES working to safely clear fallen crane

-

KUCHING: PPESWorks(Sarawak) Sdn Bhd is working closely with the Department of Safety and Health ( DOSH) to clear a construction crane that fell into the water at the Golden Bridge construction site.

In a press statement, PPES noted strict safety measures onsite helped prevent any injury or disruption and estimated that the crane would be cleared by Dec 24 and construction would resume after that.

At 2pm on Wednesday, site officers observed unusual and significantly stronger current and water flow, well outside normal operating parameters, which affected movement of a barge on which a crane was positioned.

In accordance with safety protocols, all loads were unshackled and all personnel were cleared. This strict adherence to safety protocols meant that when the unusual water flow caused one of the barge’s anchor cables to break and the crane to snag, resulting in the crane dismounting and falling into the water, there was no risk to people or infrastructure.

PPES is a joint venture construction company between Cahya Mata Sarawak Bhd and Sarawak Economic Development Corporation (SEDC).

PPES and Naim Land Sdn Bhd, in a joint venture, are the design and build contractor for the Golden Bridge – a pedestrian bridge under construction to link North and South Kuching.
