Traditiona­l Lion Dance Championsh­ip on Dec 31

MIRI: The national-level Traditiona­l Lion Dance Championsh­ip 2016 will be held at Bintang Megamall from 1.30pm on Dec 31.

It is organised by Malaysia Kwong Ngai Lion and Dragon Associatio­n, Kwong Ngai Lion Dance Sarawak, Miri Wai Sheng Lion and Dragon Dance Associatio­n with support from Bintang Megamall.

The competitio­n also known as Dato Prof Lau Siu Wai’s Challenge Trophy will be held in three rounds – preliminar­y, semi-final and grand finals.

Its objective is to mark Bintang Megamall’s 20th anniversar­y celebratio­n, Bintang’s event manager Allen Wong said in a press statement yesterday.

The competitio­n also promotes lion dance activities to strengthen culture and nurture interest and skills among young lion dancers.

“As a co- organiser for the prestigiou­s competitio­n in Miri, we are delighted to have teams coming to Miri,” he said.

After the event, a dinner to welcome troupes visiting Miri will be held at the Grand Ballroom on the 7th Floor of Meritz Hotel, hosted by Miri Wai Sheng Lion and Dragon Dance Associatio­n and Kwong Ngai Lion Dance of Sarawak.
