Ahmad Zahid: UN must act decisively to address carnage in Aleppo

-

PUTRAJAYA: The United Nations ( UN) must take drastic action to address the carnage in Aleppo, Syria and ensure the people are given priority, said Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

He said the world community should also condemned the destruction of that city, which he described as inhumane.

According to him, when he chaired the debate in the United Nations Security Council ( UNSC), several resolutions on Syria were released and he hoped it would not stayed merely as resolutions.

“What is happening in Aleppo is inhumane and we do not want the resolutions to be a backup to justify the aggressive actions being carried out by the super powers.

“When there is a dispute, the people will become the victims and we can see buildings and facilities destroyed even though some parties say it is the success of eliminating the rebels,” he told reporters after attending the Immigration Day Celebration here yesterday.

Ahmad Zahid, in his speech, at the UN Security Council last September told the UN Security Council that after five years of inactivity, now was the time for solving the conflict in Syria.

Since 2011, he said, the conflict had spread to incite a humanitarian crisis on a large scale, casuing all parties to strive hard to address it. — Bernama
