TMCLS to spend RM300 mln to expand Tropicana Medical Centre
KUALA LUMPUR: TMC Life Sciences ( TMCLS) Bhd plans to expand its flagship hospital, Tropicana Medical Centre in Kota Damansara here, into a 600-bed hospital costing RM300 million.
Group chief executive officer Roy Quek said the expansion of the current 200-bed hospital, which is expected to begin in the first half of 2017, would also include additional critical care units, operating theatres and specialist centres.
“We expect everything to be fully operational by 2020,” he told a media briefing on the TMCLS expansion plan yesterday.
Quek also said the hospital would also be connected to the Kota Damansara MRT Station.
In another development Quek, who is also Thomson Medical Pte Ltd Chairman, said they were still waiting for approval from the Health Ministry to develop an integrated medical hub - Thomson Iskandar - at Vantage Bay Healthcare City in Johor Bahru.
He said the development of the facility would be carried out in two phases.
“The first phase, costing RM1.3 billion, comprises a 500-bed tertiary hospital, specialist medical suites and related health and wellness facilities, while the second phase will include an education centre,” said Quek.
He said the education centre would provide housemanship training for fresh medical graduates in the company’s effort to help the country meet the demand for doctors.
“We plan to collaborate with the University of Dublin and UKbased universities for the purpose,” Quek added.
Malaysia targets to raise the ratio of doctors per 1,000 people to 2.5 by 2020 from 1.5 in 2015. — Bernama
