Abg Jo: RM124 million slated for housing development in Darul Hana
KUCHING: The state government has approved RM124 million for housing development in Darul Hana here.
According to Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Abang Johari Tun Openg, the series of projects under this development will include construction of infrastructure, including housing units set to commence in February next year.
“Around 20,000 families from Kampung Seberang Hilir area will benefit from this housing development. It will not burden them in any way,” he told reporters after attending a Maulidur Rasul celebration at Masjid Darul Aqsa in Kampung Segedup here yesterday.
“When families eventually move to Darul Hana, they will not be charge any fee or be burdened with any debt. All they need to do is to pack up and move into the new houses.”
Nevertheless, Abang Johari , who is also Housing and Urbanisation Minister, acknowledged that the process of relocating families from Seberang Hilir to Darul Hana would not be an easy feat: it would require cooperation from all stakeholders.
“We have our own module in handling the situation. The Darul Hana project will have 12 traditional Malay villages redeveloped in parallel with the development across Kuching city,” he said, adding that the duration of the Darul Hana modernisation project would likely to run for 10 to 15 years over 600 acres.
The Maulidur Rasul event yesterday also hosted Batu Kitang assemblyman and Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) chairman Lo Khere Chiang and other local community leaders.
On local issues, Abang Johari, who is also Satok assemblyman, believed that a creative and innovative leadership would help develop and transform any community.
“Any community can benefit from leaders who are educated and knowledgeable. In this sense, local community leaders should always promote educational activities to allow their areas to transform. You (community leaders) can start by learning to master the latest technologies, including those pertaining to information and communications.”
